Amar Run Amar Utsav Triumphs on the Streets of Guwahati
Guwahati, 3rd December’ 2023 – The vibrant streets of Guwahati witnessed an overwhelming display of health, fitness, and camaraderie as the first edition of Coal India Guwahati Half Marathon 2023 unfolded on Sunday, 3rd December 2023. Guwahati streets were covered with a sea of green as more than 5000 enthusiastic participants adorned the event's distinctive green t-shirts and ran for Peace & Prosperity in North East. The event marked a historic day for the city and its residents.
The event, themed "Amar Run Amar Utsav," brought together individuals from 27 different states across India, showcasing the true spirit of unity through running. Participants chose from three challenging race categories – the Half Marathon (21.095 km), Open 10K, and the Guwahati Fun Run 5K, offering something for everyone. Participants from the age of 4 years old to 78 yrs were part of this running event.
The festivities kicked off with a lively Zumba warm-up session, setting the stage for a day filled with energy and enthusiasm. Live performances by talented artists added to the vibrant atmosphere at the venue, creating a unique blend of music, dance, and the spirit of a running festival that motivated participants along the picturesque routes of Guwahati.
Distinguished guests and dignitaries graced the occasion, including the Hon’ble Sports Minister, Smt. Nandita Gorlosa, Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, Indian Army, Lt Gen Manish Erry, GOC, 4 Corps, Indian Army, and Major General Vishal Singh, GOC, 21 Mountain Division, Indian Army. Not only did they ceremoniously flag off the races, but they also actively participated in the 5km category, embodying the event's ethos of promoting health and fitness.
Today's event marks a significant milestone in Guwahati's journey towards a healthier and fitter community. The Coal India Guwahati Half Marathon 2023 has successfully initiated a movement that encourages individuals to embrace an active lifestyle.
